Highlights of the weekend

So Dan and I had our night out on Saturday after we went for family pictures at the church. I bought him a cigar to celebrate his new job. Our dinner at Em Chamas was amazing as usual. I told Dan never to ask me where I wanted to eat again. He can just take me there. So GOOD!! We had a great relaxing and kid free evening. I finished Pillars of the Earth....fantastic book by the way. It is probably one of the best I have ever read.

I slept in until 7. If you know my kids, you know that is really sleeping in for me! We met Jill and Brian and the kids at Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Then we took the kids back to the hotel to swim. Joe is really blossoming as far as bravery goes. He loves the water. Lynn didn't do too bad herself. She really likes to jump in to Mom and Dad.
Sunday afternoon/early evening we went to the zoo for a special FOTZ event. We didn't end up seeing anything way out of the ordinary, but we spent most of our time in the Africa area. This is unusual for us because it is not the part you get to by the train. The highlight was the free ice cream before we left.

Monday was a Gymboree day. Open Gym and then Joe's drop off class for art were on the agenda. Molly, Erin, Lynn, and I went to the library to hang out for the extra hour. Later in the afternoon we met some friends at The Grove in Zona Rosa.
Dan had his first day at the Sewer District. It went well overall. He feels like he has a lot to learn.

Today, Tuesday, is my 32nd Birthday. We are going to celebrate a little more with ice cream cake and pizza from Breadeaux. The kids and I saw Dino O'Dell at the library this morning, but other than that a very calm day! I am loving it.

June 24 and 25

Yesterday afternoon we went to the eye doctor for Joe. He does not have an inverted eyelid...just some lashes that have turned in and gotten trapped. Dr's instructions are ointment in the eye 3 times a day (translated as torture for both parent and child) until the lashes release. If they don't, we have to go back to the Dr. next week and he should be able to get them out.

After the Dr. we headed to Thousand Oaks for some pool time with Carlene and Brooke. Joe was a little fish. He was swimming all by himself with his life jacket and a noodle under his arms. He was very independent about the whole thing. This was unusual for me to see, but I was extremely happy and proud about it.

When we got home, Dan surprised me with a picture from our 80s PROM party and a card for my birthday. He is taking me out for dinner and then to a hotel for the night on Saturday. Jill and Brian are going to stay with the kids. Yeah!!! What a fabulous Birthday present.

Today was Dan's last day of work as the Public Works Director of Parkville. He will be starting with the Platte County Sewer District on Monday. I am so proud of my hubby. His abilities never cease to amaze me! I know it is a bittersweet time for him, but the change is going to be a good one. He deserves to be moving up in the world.

The kids and I did Gymboree this morning for Lynn's play class. Of course she didn't play at all. Joe was a goof ball the whole time, but he wasn't naughty, so that was a relief. We then went to Toy and Book for the first time. It is a resale place for...you guessed it....toys and books. Great store with tons of stuff. We will surely be going back. The owner offered to sell my snack bags if I wanted to do it. I am thinking about it.

Li'l Buddy & Peanut Snack Bags

Okay, so after not being able to sleep one whole night because I was thinking about doing something, and then having my friends tell me a few days later that I should do just that thing, I have decided to start doing instead of just thinking.

I am going to start making fabric draw-string snack bags. They are a "green" version of the ziplock baggie. They can be reused and washed over and over. How much money and landfill space could we all save if we didn't put our kids snack crackers in a throw away baggie every day?

So, under the name Li'l Buddy & Peanut...I will be making these bags for sale. I am thinking $2 per bag or 5 for $7.50. Let me know what you think about the prices.

Thanks to Molly, Lisa, and Carlene for the encouragement:)
